If you've ever stared at a waitlist number wondering, "Will this ticket actually confirm?", you're not alone. Train travel in India is a mix of planning, patience, and a little bit of luck. And Scapia makes the experience a bit more informed and rewarding.
In this blog, we cover the basics of Scapia Trains and everything you need to know about booking trains on the Scapia app. Read on.
What is Scapia Trains?
Scapia Trains is where Scapia Co-branded Credit Cardholders can book train tickets directly from the Scapia app. Cardholders can simply open the Scapia app, search for trains by entering your origin, destination, and travel date, browse available trains across classes, and pick the train that works for them! The tickets are booked through IRCTC, and your PNR details are available on the app app.
And if you find that your preferred trains have a long waitlist, the Scapia App also shows you the likelihood of getting the trains. We’ve also built a capability on the app that shows you alternative stations you might want to consider, in case you don’t want to be stuck on the waitlist (more on these features below).
Confirmation Probability: Know Before You Book
Anyone who's booked a train in India knows the waitlist anxiety. You book a ticket that says WL 23 and then spend the next few days refreshing your PNR status, hoping it moves.
So we built something to help with that!
When you search for trains on the Scapia app, you'll see a confirmation probability for waitlisted tickets. It’s a simple indicator (High, Medium, or Low) that tells you how likely your ticket is to get confirmed before departure. It’s powered by a model that looks at historical data: like how tickets on that specific train and route have moved in the past, the class you're booking, how far out the travel date is, and seasonal trends (festive rushes, long weekends, and so on). It takes all of that into account and gives you a read on your chances.
So if you see a high probability, you might go ahead and book with confidence, But if the chances look low, you might want to explore a different date, switch to another class, or pick an alternate train. Think of the confirmation probability feature as an informed signal that comes in handy if you're planning travel and want assurance about your tickets!
Alternate Station Suggestions: A Confirmed Seat When You Need One
Sometimes, the train you want on the route you want is fully booked — or deep in the waitlist. But here's something most people don't realise: the same train might have available seats if booked from or to a nearby station on the same route.
On the Scapia app, when availability is limited, you may see . These are confirmed seat suggestions on the same train and the same route, just booked from or to a slightly different station. Your boarding point and where you get off stays the same.
The trade-off, however, is that the fare might be slightly higher since the booking covers a longer distance. But if paying a little more for a confirmed berth is well worth it compared to the uncertainty of a waitlist, this feature is for you!
It especially helps when you’re looking for a train ticket but on a busy route during peak season.
Earn Scapia Coins on Every Booking
Every train ticket you book on the Scapia app earns you 20% back in rewards in the form of Scapia Coins. These coins accumulate in your Scapia wallet and can be used toward future bookings on the app, i.e, for Stays, Flights, Trains, Buses, Experiences, Visa, Trips, and Stores.
5 Scapia Coins = ₹1. So if you've built up a healthy coin balance from your everyday card spends and previous bookings, you can apply them at checkout and bring down your ticket cost.
To use your coins, just toggle the option during payment. The discount is applied instantly to your booking amount. It's a straightforward way to make your regular train travel a little lighter on the wallet.
